K&N cleaning question?
It's about time to clean the K&N filter element on my FIPK for my '98. The instructions are simple enough. But perhaps they are too simple. It appears when applying the oil, you are to simply pour it on one pleat at a time? However, I believe I've heard of people here "brushing" it on?
Should I pour the oil directly on the element or brush it on evenly?
Thanks in advance

Re: K&N cleaning question?
Some cleaning kits come with a sprayer, some don't and come with a flip up nozzle. If you have the nozzle, just apply it directly to each pleat, squeezing only hard enough to coat the screen. Not too heavy. Let it sit for a while before adding any more if needed to see how much it has spread around.

Thanks for the imput guys. I'll probably do it tonight. BTW, I have the direct nozzle applicator, no spray.
Re: K&N cleaning question?
If you're worried about putting on too much (which makes for a serious mess!) then on the first pass, do every other pleat, so you can see how far it soaks in after an hour of sitting. Then just go back and touch up the spots that didn't get oiled.

Yes, be careful you don't over oil it. That oil gets sucked up the intake ducting and coats the MAF sensors, causing them to not read correctly. I have the spray and it makes it much easier not to over oil. I took my MAF out and cleaned the sensors a couple of weeks after I oiled the filter just to be safe.
