I have a chance to buy a v6 4th gen car who's engine took a puke and stuff in all my goodies from my 86 Camaro. The computer would be gone swapped out for a carbed engine. I wouldn't do it right away cuz I need my 86 because of this years' fun to be had at the track but I could start on it this coming winter. Just something I've been thinking about doing.

but one problem to consider is the cowl clearnace, about a 1/4 of the motor is stuffed up under the windshield. makes it hard to work on the distributor and such.

Probably one of the reasons 4th gens have opti-spark and distributorless designs.

 

That would be a huge problem, I've heard a distributor will fit if it's low profile. But you would have to pull the engine to get the distributor out.

 

I half contemplated a built up Mustang 5.0 swap

I was considering it on my 94, it was already quaser blue. Then put a ford emblem on the back :LOL:

I figgure, daily driven 350 hp wasn't unreasonable out of a small block Ford, and the distributor would be in the front.

 

I've done it. Other than dissy clearance, and wiring issues, it was no big deal.

YOU DON'T have to pull the motor to pull the dissy. You have to pull the manifold. And that's only if you use a normal-size distributor. But how often do you even pull a distributor? Besides, if you were that concerned, you could always cut the access hatch that some people do.

I would suggest you ask the 3 or 4 people here that have actually done the swap.

 

It can be done I have seen it on a carbed small block in an lt1 car, and I have seen a big block in a 98 plus car.


just remember its not a "cinch"
