It's a 1LE! Any others?

I recently joined the F-body rank of owners when I bought my 95 Z28 M6 from the GM dealership where I work.
Due to a nice $1262 25c Royal Flush
, I replaced the serpentine belt, EGR valve, added fluidampr, K+N FIPK, Optispark/Wires/Iridium plugs, fuel filter and did the brakes. All cheap 'cause I get parts for cost and do the work myself (okay, with a little help from an ASE and his $10,000 worth o' tools).
The Tech who helped me was looking at my SPI (Service Parts ID) sticker and noticed that there was the a 1LE code! We have the GM RPO bible and decoded all the codes. So I have the factory racer or what? He mentioned that this includes HD cool, HD brakes, fuel tank pickup extender, etc. So I got a 95 Z28 1LE for $4000? Holy crap. The SPI says the original colour was white, so it's been painted, since it's red now, big deal. Good paint, though, except for the roof, which I think was left black since there is the usual GM clear peel. Guess the guy who traded it in for a Ford Exploder didn't care that he was giving up a rare 1 of 106 car! NOW I'm really happy! Check the SPI...

Re: It's a 1LE! Any others?
Does the vin number on the RPO sticker match the vin number in the windshield? it is possible the glove box was replaced with one from a wreck. It's not that often a car gets repainted a different color. Is there any evidence the car used to be arctic white?
Re: It's a 1LE! Any others?
Does it have manual roll up's and locks along with cloth seats ? Some even came with no stereo and a/c but that was optional.

Re: It's a 1LE! Any others?
Okay, ran the VIN at work. It is a real 1LE. VIN on the RPO/SPI sticker matches the dash plate. The repaint (less the roof) was done at a bodyshop in Oregon according to the original owner, who happened to be at my work today having his Exploder's 30,000 service done. Pretty nice guy. He pointed out an area of the rear hatch channel and the passenger-side door jamb that is kinda whiteish pinkish and noted that it was his wife's idea to have it painted PPG red. The car did have options installed including A/C, power windows/locks and cruise
He said he drove the sales guy nuts back when he ordered it 'cause they had to wait forever for it to get to the dealership where he got it. His reasoning for the 1LE was to get the big brakes, driveshaft and suspension. His reasoning for the trade-in on an Explorer? Poor weather. He said it's "undrivable" in the snow. Oh, great. Whatever, now it's mine. Should I get rid of the Cruise, A/C and power stuff? That would put it back to base 1LE, right? I would like to have foglights for when it does get rainy/snowy. All I know is that it is a really fun car and I'm proud to have it!

Re: It's a 1LE! Any others?
Don't get too over-excited. While there were fewer 1LE's made, it's not really a "factory racer". It's the same as most any Z28 with a few suspension options and maybe a few less convenience options (but not necessarily). If you remove anything from what was it was ordered, you destroy the origninality of that particular car (if that is what you care about).
Re: It's a 1LE! Any others?
According to your RPO sticker your car did not come factory equipped with power windows(A31), locks(AU0), Cruise Control(K34) or A/C(C60). Someone went through alot of trouble to add all that stuff, and change the color.
It would of been much cheaper to just buy a regular red Z28 and add the 1LE driveshaft, springs and swaybars.

Re: It's a 1LE! Any others?
The were only 106 1LE Z28's built in 1995. The package name is "Special Performance Components Package".
From the 4th Gen FAQ:
Not sure why they don't mention the aluminum driveshaft.
From the 4th Gen FAQ:
Q: What's included in the 1LE performance package?
A: The package required these options (Z28/Formula, respectively):
Basic option group (FZAB/1SA)
A/C delete (until 1996 when A/C became standard)
6-speed transmission or performance rear axle with the automatic (GU5/G92)
Z-rated tires w/ 150 speedo (QLC/QLC)
Base stereo
and it consisted of:
Higher rate front springs (360 lbs/in for mid-1994 and after)
Variable rate rear springs (130-180 lbs/in for mid-1994 and after)
Stiffer front and rear shocks (Koni double adjustable for 1996 and after)
Harder bushings (front upper/lower and rear control arms)
Larger diameter anti-sway bars (32mm front, 21mm/19mm rear)
Increased cooling (for 1995 and after)
Engine oil cooler (1993 - 1995)
Stronger Transmission mount for 6 speed Transmission's
Stiffer Panhard-bar bushings
The 1993 1LE cars had the same springs and deCarbon shocks (but with much stiffer valving) as on the stock Z28s and Formulas. Initial 1994 1LE cars received the same set-up, but sometime during model year (between Dec 94 and Mar 95), the 1LEs received stiffer (higher/variable rate) springs and the shock valving was slightly reduced (but still considerably stiffer than the stock deCarbon valving). Due to the stiffer springs and modified valving, the 21mm rear sway bar was dropped in favor of the 19mm bar (which was the same as on the stock Z28s and Formulas). In 1996, the Koni double adjustable shocks became standard on the 1LE cars. Increased cooling on 1995 and after models was accomplished by the addition of an air conditioning radiator baffle even though no AC was available in 1995. Also, after 1995, in order to get the 1LE on the Firebird or Trans Am you had to order the WS6 package. According to the 1997 Pontiac brochure, the 1LE package could not be ordered with the automatic transmission.
Here's a list of suspension parts and prices for 1994 models:

Re: It's a 1LE! Any others?
Yes, the RPO/SPI sticker does not have the A/C, Cruise or PW/PL... I have to look into this some more. I wonder if the original owner added it or if the dealership added it before it was sold? This is interesting.
