Installing a starter kill switch: Is a 25 amp toggle switch safe?
Installing a starter kill switch: Is a 25 amp toggle switch safe?
I cut the purple starter wire on the passenger side and wired in a 25 amp toggle switch. Is the switch going to burn out or is that a high enough amp rating to use.
I see that some people use relays but I'm not real clear on how to hook that up and would rather not.

Drive up to my shop in Portage WI, and I will help you wire up a relay seeing as that should really be a 30 amp. But if you have a 4th gen, it already has a starter relay for the VATS (PASS KEY II).

Thanks for the invite but I just don't have the time (or gas money
) to go all the way up there. Is it a service shop? Maybe sometime in the future because I think my fuel pump is going. Anyways, I bought a 30 amp and 50 amp switch and am deciding on which one to use.

30amp is fine. My shop is a custom shop, "KINGSLAND CUSTOMS" I have been doing LT1 swaps since 1995, put them is 70's muscle cars, like F-bodies and vets, and S-10 trucks, and about everything else including Porsche 944's, Datsun 240Z's and RX7's, also do superchargers and turbo chargers, custom paint, work on stock cars, we sponser 4 stockcars right now...

I wouldn't run a starter kill switch without a relay, not when for under $2 you can do it the right way and not worry about your car burning down.

Could you explain why a relay is needed? I don't understand why they are needed.
I ended up using a 50 amp switch. To me it doesn't seem like there is any need to worry about something going wrong.
