Im a complete Camaro Rookie -help!
I just got the opportunity to buy a 1967 Red Camaro RS with a 357 ci engine. Its in optimal condition and all parts are orignal and well kept. Its a showroom car basically. Anyways, I dont have a clue about Camaros, the types, etc. I was wondering if you guys could answer a few questions for me. First of all, which one is faster/the best/worth more? Z28,SS, or RS? Second of all, how much do you think the car above is going for right now on the market (I would appreciate a rough estimate). And finally, approximately, how much is the insurance and premium on a car like that?
Re: Im a complete Camaro Rookie -help!
boy...that's a pretty vague description.
my first thought was that a 357 is not a stock motor. it was probably originally a 350 and was bored out to 357. which begs the question of whether it is original or not, or has been modified more than just a basic stock rebuild overhaul.
i would say the SS is fastest, but it really depends on the engine options.
you're best bet would be to go down to a good book store, barnes & noble or Borders, and look for a book with specific info on the older cars, options and engines.
price....how's $5000-50,000 for a rough estimate?
it could easily have a trashed frame, quick cosmetics to make the body straight and a totally pieced together drivetrain. or it could be an all original numbers matching car, no rust, original interior with a $10,000 paint job.

yeah that description is pretty vague. It could have bondoed fender wells to the sheet metal replaced in the floor boards because of rust to a non original drivetrain. Do u personally know the seller, if not then u need and expert opinion and or proper paperwork to back his story up. If it's all original he should have at least some of the original paperwork and there most likely would only be a few owners of the car. What is the seller asking for it, how many miles(cpuld of been rolled back. Can u do a carfax if so post vin in the lounge and someone will run it for u if they have extra reports to give or is the car to old for car fax,

The "RS" designation, at least from the factory, was only available on 1996/97 6-cylinder Camaros. If its got a "357", as noted above, its likely a reworked LT1 350ci V8. Or, it might be someone liked the RS ground effects and badges and decided to put them on a Z28.
You might want to read through the "4th Gen FAQ" for some basic info on the Camaro, models, engines, options, etc.:

Re: Im a complete Camaro Rookie -help!
I'll bet it's a typo and is a 327ci. Fastest and best are really subjective and not much use for a collector car. For 67 the Z28 is probably the most desirable and therefore the most valuable. Z28 was a performance option, engine and suspension. Also GM did not advertize this option in 67 and so it is fairly rare. The SS and RS were body/trim option. However any addtional options adds value to a collector car, so the more the better.
The value of any collector car depends on it's originality, condition, option, and providence(verifiable paper work).

357 is a very oddball size... Either someone is coming up with that on their own because it sounds cool, like a 357 magnum...
Or it's a typo.As far as 1st gen Camaros go, the Z28 is worth more. Rated at 290hp, most people say it was actually putting out more like 390.
