ignition switch

how do you change an ignition switch? and if something were wrong with it, would it show a code ?

this morning i went to start my car and all i hear is a clicking sound. some mechanic told me it was the switch. or could it be the starter? ok just wondering ! thx.

Does it click or clunk every time? Usually the switch is associated with intermittent starting and prolonged cranking. If it's a clunk as soon as you turn the key, it's most likely the starter solenoid. Make sure your battery is fully charged first. You can try banging on the solenoid as a last resort and see if it starts.
