Auto shifter question

I have a 1995 Z28. It has the auto trans. My shifter label is as follows:

P
R
N
OD
D
2

My buddies 1995 Z28 convertable has the following (I think, I could be wrong):

P
R
N
OD
D
2
1

What gives? Mine has the space for me to shift into the "1" position but the tranny won't go back past 2

Make any sense? Hope so!!

There are probably hundreds of threads about this. You can search to find out specifics.

Bottom line is cut off the block that keeps the shifter from going all the way back and you will be able to pull it into 1st gear.

The gears are good for gas mileage, if you do a lot of highway driving.

Yeah, I have owned several Mustangs with the 2:73 and they were good on the highway. Unfortunately I purchased the Z as my weekend/toy.

I guess I'll have to look into adding new gears in the future.

What, if anything has to be done to the trans to make the MPH's show up right if I swap gears?

You will need a reprogram of the PCM to correct for new gears.
