Ignition problem... help

Hey guys, what's going on ?? I've been a reader for a while (well for about a month)but I just finally sign up. Well need some help, problem:
My distributor went out on me, took it to the shop to get it replaced, when I got the car back I noticed I didn't have the same power, throtle reponse & it backfires alot on first gear. I couldn't keep up with a Honda the other day "a honda" for got's saike !!!
the guy I the shop said I need a tune up new plugs & wires..
I'll take all the advice I can get.
Thanks in advance ..

Was the car exhibiting all of these symptoms before you took it to the shop? If not, then I would start by questioning what the shop did to the vehicle. Did they maybe put the opti-spark unit (distributor) in wrong and put the engine out of time as a result. Or did they leave a connection to a various sensor unplugged? It sounds like you have a problem greater than plugs and wires is going to solve.

Nop, Before I took the car to the shop, the car was running pretty well, it started just studering at high revs & then the engine would turn off. It did that about 2 times & the third time it just wouldn't start.

Thanks again for your reply.

Your original problem sounded like a coil meltdown.

Re: Ignition problem... help

Could these be cause by maybe a burned spark plug, old plug wire, or if the wires were not place in the right order?????

I'm not that mechanicly incline, so I'll take all the advice I can get ...

Thanks again

Re: Ignition problem... help

It can be plugs/wires. Check whether all plug wires boots are sitting tight on opti. Anyway, since it happened after opti install in shop, I wouldn't waste my time trying to figure it out, I'd drive there and let them fix their half-*** job.

Re: Ignition problem... help

Definitely take it back and don't take no for an answer. Your plugs and wires might need replaced since the engine has a few miles on it I'm sure, but they aren't the problem. The shade-tree mechanic is the problem.
