idle stuck..........HELP!
idle stuck..........HELP!
Installed a 58mm holley throttle body..........
My problem is when I accelerate the throttle sticks at 1500 rpm
When I kick it down it goes back to base idle,
but the minute I accelerate it starts idling high again
When the cars off the accelertor is againt the throttle stop screw, so there is no binding
I've slotted the TPS and adjusted it, but the idle still sticks until i kick it down.
Anythoughts? Please help I'm at a loss.
Thanks in advance

Re: idle stuck..........HELP!
Maybe the new TB is gummed up somehow and not letting the inside blades return to the fully closed position? It's quite common on higher mileage engines, and feels like a sticking gas pedal. If you want to, you can try spraying some throttle body cleaner into it. I think 3M makes it, it comes in a white can. Good luck!
Re: idle stuck..........HELP!
The Holley is notorious for a problem with the "return" on the blades. The coiled spring that closes the blades can be adjusted. If you pull the quadrent/shaft out of the throttle body, you will see an extra hole in the body for the spring tang, that allows you to coil the spring tighter.
While you have the blades out of the body, look for signs of the blades digging into the bores of the body, indicating they may be slightly oversize, requiring that they be sanded very lightly on the edges.
If they are not binding, and all else fails, add an extra straight spring from the extra stud on the outside of the quadrent, to the cable bracket. Someone posted a picture showing this in the last month or so.
Its amazing that the Holley is such poor quality - I had a couple problems with mine when it was new. Looks great, but not very well made.
