I need opinions on a really good alarm system.
Re: I need opinions on a really good alarm system.
I had a Viper on my previous vehicle, very not bad. Although the sensetivity was a touch to high, people with half a system would set it off. Other than that, worked like a charm and actually saved my rear a few times that im aware of!

I have a CompuStar and do not like it, so i would say avoid them. The main reason being the communication between the car and remote, it doesnt keep track of the status of the car very well. If the alarm goes off the remote beeps and that and then it will stop even if the car alarm is still going, also if i use another remote to unlock the car it will still show up on my 2 way remote that my car is still unlocked. Poor programming on compustars part that makes it feel less secure.

AutoPage makes a good LCD alarm that pages you when the alarm goes off, tells you which door is open, whether it's running or not, etc. A buddy of mine just got it put on his 2004 Chevy 1/2 ton. It has remote start and seems to be a great system. Cost him $500 installed

If your Compustar is doing that it is not working correctly. That company is constantly updating the software in their alarma and ramote starts. When you car is going off your pager sould be going off also the whole time or until you shut it off. If you use the smaller remote to lock the doors the larger will not update until you check status.
The manufaturer or the alarm is not near as important as who installs it. MOST of the complaints I see are install related things like the shock is to sensitive or something like that. Find an good alarm company and then find someone who you think you can trust to do a good job.
Some good alarms are Clifford, Viper(DEI), Code Alarm, Compustar, 2005 Ungo(DEI make them now), Excalibur. There are many others. I would stay away from internet alarm companies sold on ebay. I have had a few come through my shop and they are POS. They have very poor instructions and tech is non-existant. One that come to mind is BMW Nitro. It had a fancy remote but was a piece. It worked very poorly.
