Hypertech Program Chip?

so i was lookin through autotrader and found this car

now it says it has a chip, but i was under the impression that OBDII cars did not have a PCM that could be removed and replaced with something else? does this mean he shipped his pcm off for a tune or am i missing something here? what exaclty is a hypertech program chip?

thanks guys

I don't buy cars from people that don't know what they are talking about. There have been no replaceable chips on an LT1 f-body since 1993.

It's probably one of those inline piggyback "modules" which are available for OBDII cars but not exactly 'chips' OR he's just using the term loosely for programming by Hypertech's "Power Programmer" which from what I've heard does nothing for power increase.

On a related note though, miles seem low for a '96, what is the owner's explanation? Also, it's always a good idea to be very cautious buying a modified car (they get modified for a reason )

Last but not least, for $10K you could look at an early '98-'99 LS1 F-body.

Hope this helps.

Re: Hypertech Program Chip?

ahh i see, thank you for the response. i am a little weary of the modifications as well, i have yet to look at the car in person (its only a few miles from my house) but its just one of my options thus far.
