Angry Hypertech PP3 Problem

I recently programmed my car with HPP3 but have experienced loud pinging noises in the engine with the power tuning. The pinging gets louder when I floor the accelerator. I installed a new Hypertech thermostat and added octane boost on my car, but the pinging is still audible.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem. Is there something I can do to get rid of the pinging all together? Im sure im loosing power due to the detonation.

Sounds like you car's running real lean, I could only hear when I really got on it.

Can you have anyone scan your car to see how the O2's look?

You have a choice ... OEM MAF or HPP3. They don't play well together.

On my '01 Z28, I couldn't get the detonation to go away until I put the stock MAF back on. But the tuning did give me a 14 RWHP increase.

With the '01 WS6, I can't get the pinging to go away no matter what I do. So my HPP3 just sits in the closet collecting dust. (glad I got it free with the beta testing) The car is slower with the tuning installed. WTF ???

I did an experiment at the track the last time I went. I installed the HPP power tuning and stock MAF. With it pinging all the way down the track, I never got below 13.5.

With the stock tuning, and stock MAF ... I pulled back to back 13.3 runs.

I also logged the runs in AutoTap. With the HPP tuning installed, the O2 readings were all out of whack. With the stock tuning installed, the O2 readings were right on the money.

My advice ... ditch the power tuning.

Question How much time did you have to give the PCM ?

Weird - on my ' 99 SS the upper RPM A/F mixture was way rich w/ the HPP3 installed - I am thinking of putting the Thunder Racing MAF end back on the front to see if that will lean it out.

Did you have to do a few passes or drive the car around before the stock programming "stabilized" ??

I always wondered how long it took the PCM to get back in it's groove.

Thanks !

I made the 13.5 runs back to back with the HPP tuning installed. The wait in the staging lanes was about 5 minutes between the runs.

Then I changed the programming and ran the car again. It was about 30 minutes later when I ran again. 13.3 on first run, hot-lapped (less than 2 minutes) and ran another 13.3.

Ran 13.3 all night after that.

rest of car is stock besides a k/n air filter i called hypertech
and they told me to send it back to them so they can check it out
and fix or replace. not sure y some people have that problem and some dont.
