hurst shifter opinions?

do you think it is worth changing the factory shifter in my 94z to a hurst shifter that came factory in the ss's? i have been toying with the idea of changing the shifter around, but don't know if it is worth changing to the factory hurst...

maybe i'll just go for the pro 5.0

anyways, whats the opionion on th ehurst vs. the regular stock shifter?

I think most people will say go with the Pro 5.0. While I have no experience with it myself, I believe people change out even their hursts for a pro 5.0.

Re: hurst shifter opinions?

The "Hurst" that came with the SS was a low $$$ copy of the Hurst Comp+. The cover plate wasn't quite as beefy, and it required the use of the stock stick, with the big rubber bushing at the base. Most people prefer to get rid of the rubbery stock stick, and get something with the stick bolted directly to the shift mechanism. I had a Hurst Comp+ and it was good. I replaced it with a Pro 5.0 and it was great.

Re: hurst shifter opinions?

the $50 shipped i paid for my hurst (from an SS) was money VERY well worth it.

the shifts were shorter and firmer even with the crappy stock stick. and when i changed that out for the Lou's short stick it made it a completely different animal.

i actuallly drove a pro5.0 and didn't like it, had trouble finding gears. but it seemed the spring tension in it was set really high. or something.

if you are on a budget the factory hurst is worth it, but do yourself a favor and buy a short stick for $25 off ebay. i have one i need to sell, but i don't have the longer bolts needed to install it. if you have access to a source of metric bolts, let me know if you want the stick. there are pics in my website below

I am not sure about the factory Hurst shifter but I put the Comp Plus shifter in mine and it was a major improvement over the stock shifter. It may not match the Pro 5.0 that everyone raves about but its good enough for me. Found mine on ebay for about $60 new in box.

Getting rid of the crappy stock stick is the biggest improvement. Even on a stock shifter.
