how to tell?
how to tell?
im starting to wonder if my car has had previous head/cam work done. it seems a little to quick and loud to be stock. i recently did valave cover gaskets and a valve adj. and noticed some numbers written in black marker on the inside of the heads. it had a 33 on the drivers side and a 12 on the other. never seen writing on stock heads before. any way i can tell without pulling them off? any way to tell if it has been cammed? any help is appreciated.
Re: how to tell?
head work would probably require removal. unless you tried a compression test, in case they milled them.
not sure what you could do on the cam, maybe there are some numbers marked on the end of the cam. but you'd have to pull the front cover

Re: how to tell?
Well, take it to the track and see what it runs. That will be a good indication if anything is done. There is no way to tell specifics without dissassembling the motor. You can measure valve lift with a dial indicator and that will tell you if its a stock cam or not. Also, when you had the valve covers off, were there quality parts used? Roller rockers? Nice pushrods? That would give an indication of whether its been worked on or not.
