Cluster Keeps Resetting?

When i start my car when it is cold in the morning (doesnt do this in the summer, only winter), the needles all peg out really fast and slowly return to normal (like the vettes do normally), and my trip odometer resets. Why is it doing this? im trying to figure my mpg, but it keeps resetting.

Re: Cluster Keeps Resetting?

Ive heard this before. It seems to be a problem with LS1's. I have no idea how you would fix this. Its either a fuse or you have to take it into the dealership. Try a search.

IIRC, this is an issue with the 99's. There may be a TSB on it, not sure if they'll still cover it as it's out of warranty though.

Re: Cluster Keeps Resetting?

Old thread, picking it up!

I have the same problem, trip odometer resets everytime I start the car, and the gauges maxes out, and then goes back to normal when starting the car.

Annoying problem... anyone have a solution?

thanks,

'99 too? Check your connections/battery voltage (most likely cause). There is a TSB on it for replacing the gauge cluster in severe cases, I'll look up the number for you.

What is a TSB? I live in Sweden, is it the same rules here too?

Thanks,

Re: Cluster Keeps Resetting?

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin
It is a GM method developed to deal with a frequent problem. Some clusters had this resetting problem in the cold. I think their solution was to replace the cluster. I don't have any idea how things are handled in Sweden.

Re: Cluster Keeps Resetting?

I had the exact same problem with my '99 SS. Took the car, along with a copy of the bulletin to my dealer, and they had to replace the entire gauge cluster.

Re: Cluster Keeps Resetting?

I dont have a TSB on me, but i never did get it fixed. its summer now, and it doesnt reset. besides, i have macewen overlays, and i dont want to lose those now. Also, the only bad thing about this is it resets the trip odometer. it looks kind of cool though, like on corvettes. they do it anyway, and it looks kind of cool.

Re: Cluster Keeps Resetting?

I'll check with my dealer and see what he says.

This is related to my aftermarket car-alarm too, sometimes when I disengage the alarm, the powerlocks won't open, so I'll need to manually open the doors with my key, that's really annoying. And then I can't calculate my MPG either when the trip resets, but I don't think I wanna anyway
