Just curious as I had a oil leak that was repaired but I have a lokar dip stick in my LT1. It shows full after I put one quart in after the light came on. Want to make sure the after market dip stick is accurate.

 

Usually around 1-11/2 qt low when the light comes on, but best way to check dipstick accuracy is to change the oil, fill with the correct amount, and see where it is on the stick

 

Well, I just changed the oil recently when tracking down my oil leaks. Maybe I should put another quart in just to be safe.

 

just check the dipstick first...

Aftermarket lokar dipstick shows full after adding 1quart. Not sure to trust this or not.

 

is it not the point of a dipstick to tell you how much oil is in your engine. the idea that it is even possible inaccurate kinda defeats the point of having it.

Like he said before me. change your oil and put in exactly what it should take to see how accurate it is and adjust based off that.

having to much oil in a engine is just as bad as not having enough.

 

@crankshaft- I got $30+ in fresh synthetic in there with less than 400 miles. Hate to drain it just to see how accurate the aftermarket stick is. Hence the original question of how much oil is left when the low oil light is on.

 

I don't know the answer to the question, but given the location of the low oil switch, I'd guess about 1/2 of the oil is left, or about 2.5 or 3.0 quarts.

When my light comes on I am missing close to 2 quarts and oil pressure starts dancing. Not good.

 

Light comes on when you are 2 qts. low.
