how to mount tach

i've got a 94 camaro, i want to add an aftermarket tach since my cars a stick i want better control over my shift points at the track. i'm looking at the mini monster C2 tach by autogauge. but i wondered what the best place would be to mount it. i'd rather have it low key as possilbe but realistically it needs to be in veiw while running down the track, so i'm thinking top of the dash...but not sure what i want.

so, i'm open to ideas, pics of existing setups would help. maybe i should just get a light? i'm not sure.. maybe a tach mounted on the column with a light on the dash?

Your wasting your time with a huge tach its not going to help you out

Look at the raptor shift lights, ill get you some pictures of your options on them.

I have one and put it where the curve of the top of the dash meets the rest of the dash, as low as possible. I never understood why people mounted them by the a-pillar

I put mine where I did so it was as low-key as possible and I could have my left arm on the wheel, right on the shifter, and have the tach right there...vs. putting it over by the a-piller and having to look the other way.

IMO using monster tachs in cars that already have one from the factory is ricey at best. Shift light is a much better tool anyway. Especially dealing with an inaccurate tach.

Look to the left or look to the right, am I missing something? If your at the track, is there a lane that's always better? Right lane better, mount it on the A- pillar, left lane better, well you get the point. That's for only helping with your launch. After that, as was mentioned, a shift light works best.

I'd recommend a well placed shift light. Forget the extra tach IMHO.

What do you suggest for an engine that will routinely exceed the 7,000rpm limit of the stock tach? What do you sugggest for us "senior citizens" who really don't want to squint down into that skimpy stock dash tach to look at a scale that is incorrectly marked for a modified engine.

I guess this doesn't qualify as "low key"..... but I don't really care - call me a ricer if you want.

is that a 5" tach or the smaller 3 3/4? i figured the smaller size would work out better..

as he mentioned, factory tach ain't worth a crap, just hookup a laptop and look at the difference between actual rpm and what your tach reads. i don't know...

what you guys recomend for a shift light, something that's self sufficient.

Say Injuneer, are you manually shifting your TH400? Just curious.

Yes... B&M Pro-Ratchet, sitting under the stock M6 console.

Shift light. No reason to squint. Aim it at your line of sight and it'll blind you... and get a better opthamologist. Surely you are not quoting the "senior citizens" remark as a reference that I allegedly made, right?

some people don't want to mess with shift light pills. Test and tune can get expensive

Also with a racing tach you normally get a built in shift light that you can set without pills plus some even have memory recall there are many advantages to an aftermarket tach.

Oh and IMO a big tach on a car your only shift in a race is from "P" to "D" is ricey

Raptor, Summit, and a slew of other companies make and/or sell self contained shift lights that DON'T require pills. Memory? If you need memory on a tach that badly, get yourself set up with a laptop connection with data logging. Much more useful information that way.

Honestly, I don't see the point to having an additional tach in the car for drag racing, which is why I don't have one in my car. Shift light does all I need. If others feel they truly need one, it's their money, let them spend it however the hell they choose (BTW, something tells me Injuneer is doing something right with his car, and I highly doubt the monster tach would be there if there wasn't a true need for it).
