How many lbs of r-134?

My a/c stopped blowing cold air so i'm planning to vacuum everything out and recharge it. How many lbs of R-134 should I put back in? I've heard 32oz. Am I correct? I'll be using the R-134 from a container used for refridgerators. Are special oils needed for a car's compressor?

R134 should be about 90% of the rated capacity. Dump the oil out of the compressor and put in R134 compatible oil (Ester oil). Change the accumulator as it will have R12 oil in it.

He has a '96 - It's already 134a.

The stock fill is 2 lbs. But, not having any idea how much is left in your system it's impossible to tell you how much to put back in.

No need to dump/vacuum unless it's already completely empty, right?

Just had mine recharged and they put 850 grams of gas back in there and 18ml of oil. They only managed to recover 215 grams of gas and 3 ml of oil so it was definitely in need of doing .

Okay, so I looked in the manual. Stock fill is 2 lbs. So since I'll be vacuuming everything out, since it's full of air and probably moisture I'll put back 2lbs of r-134. My new delima is how much oil should I replace. Stock fill is 8oz. but I don't think all 8 oz. will be vacuumed out. Anyone know a rough estimate as far as how much oil should be replaced?

18ml of oil? That's only slightly over half an ounce. Do you know how they came to that amount?

I was of the understanding that the oil was already mixed in wth the r-134 gas .

I bought a can of oil from Kragen and it's 8oz oil with 2oz 134.
But I'll be using the vacuum and refilling the 134 from work.
The stuff is made for refridgerators so that's why I have to add the oil seperately.

134a does *not* contain oil. It might be in the can, but it isn't, by default, included.

Don't add sealers to the system. They do nothing good for the compressor.
