How long do Headers last?

I was thinking about geting headers, the thing that I'm worried about, is the durability of them. I dont have enough money to spend on kooks stainless steel ones. I wanted to know how long they last. Like a pair of jet hot w/ coating. It'll be my daily driver and it'll be driven in rain and during the winter months. Is there anyway to make them last longer, other then taking them off and geting them recoated. Thanks

Re: How long do Headers last?

If you are driving in those conditions, then I would get the Kooks. I have the coated Pacesetters and they have already started to rust in less then a years time. I also do not drive my car in the rain or snow and it is driven only a handful of times throughout the year. Other people have had the same problem with the coating rusting in a short time on their Pacesetter and Jet-Hot headers.

I bought a used set of AS&M's with HPC coating. They are now 8 years old, having been used on two big power adder motors (one S/C, one N2O) and still in very good shape. Even on #7 where an EGT bung was welded on after the headers were coated, there is minimal rust.

I painted my headers black about a year ago, and I see almost no rust. I didn't drive it in the winter, but rain isn't a problem.....

My Edelbrock Shorties were ceramic coated about 4 years ago. Just started to rust a couple of weeks ago. A little rust remover took most of the rust off. The place I got them coated at offers a lifetime warranty, but I have to of course take them off the car. I'd rather let them fall off the car first then get a set of longtubes or something.

Re: How long do Headers last?

Typical mild steel headers on a daily driver should last about 5 years before they're rotted out. Having them coated will greatly increase their life.

My daily driver truck has stainless headers. They were never coated and they've turned that tarnished tan color that stainless does. They've been on the truck now for about 12 years and are still in good condition with no leaks.

Not sure of the brand name, it's upstairs in the garage. Got it at NAPA, It's a pink Gel that you wipe on , let stand 10 min, then wipe off with a wet cloth.

Re: How long do Headers last?

I just ordered 93 SLP mids, they are on clearance for $400.http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=30010C Stainless steel with a Y pype, but i think they Y is just alluminized steel. If you dont have a 93 youll have to get rid of your emmisions stuff because it wont fit.
