How hard is it to take the dash out?

My car was in an accident before I bought it. Not too bad, but enough to make the passengers airbag bust.

Now the airbag cover sits up a little higher the te rest of the dash. It's been bothering me for a while, and I'm trying to figure out what is involved in fixing it.

The cover is part of the dash, so I'd have to remove the whole dash to get to it. For people who have done it: How hard is it to remove the dash? I'm guessing you'll have to unplug the radio, heat/ac, and lights controls. Take out the guages. What else? Mabe the steering column? Then I'm sure there is a bunch of bolts that hold that thing in I'll have to take out.

Dash's don't seem to be too expensive, but how time consuming/hard it it to replace? Also it would give me piece of mind that there is actually a passengers airbag in there.

I swaped dashes in my car to upgrade from the old to new style. Just pulling the dash was hard enough. retrofitting the new dash was a real pain. I assume you realize you will have to replace the dash. Although it looks like a cover from the outside, it actually a section of dash that breaks out when the airbag deploys. It would have to be pretty bad for me to want to pull the dash to fix it.

How bad is it? Post a pic

I know I'd have to replace the dash. Here is something I found doing a little searching:

I don't have a good picture that shows the gap right now, I'll try to snap one today. Here is the best I have:

It's not a lot, but it annoys me. And as long as I can get a dash for $100-$125 I'll do it. So far the install doesn't look too bad as long as I make sure to mark where everything goes.

snapped some pictures of the misalignment:

still don't know what to do. sounds like one of the hardest parts is just not cracking the hard plastic dash board. Getting out guages, radio, HVAC, light switches shouldn't be too hard. How about AC vents? Do they pretty much just slide in and out?

On a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being easy. Its about a 7 or 8. I completely removed the dash in my 94 to delete the HVAC and it was not easy. It can be done, there are some good writeups on this forum if you do some searching. Make sure you get some plastic baggies and label where all your bolts come from and have some boxes handy to store the pieces as they come off. Labeling everything was the key for me getting the dash back together with very little frustration. Its a good weekend project so give yourself some time and room.
