How to fix rear bumper sag?

Is there any way to lift the bumper back to where it should be? Notice the crease between the rear panel below the taillights and the bumper...

Re: How to fix rear bumper sag?

I have this problem too..

my ultimate plan is to send this car off to a body shop to get repainted, fenders slightly flared out for better clearnce for wide tires, and suble things like the bumper, and front driver fender realigned... when the time is right..

Re: How to fix rear bumper sag?

Have you removed the rear bumper support?
Mine does this as well but I have removed the bumper supports.
I do have an idea of how to fix it but it would require self tapping screws.

I have this problem too. Maybe the brace underneath can be shifted higher, or moved up a bit. Spacers maybe???

Re: How to fix rear bumper sag?

The rear bumper is fastened along those edges with hard plastic brackets. The bracket rivets to the bumper cover and then bolts to the car. It looks like the factory paints the bumper cover, then rivets it to the brackets.

Each bracket has 3 studs sticking out of it. 2 of them protrude into the rear compartment and the 3rd is just around the edge of the fender lip. There is also a single screw in the edge of the fender lip.

You could try loosening all these fasteners, Have a friend lift the cover up and retighten it. It is also possible that the cover has just warped a little with age and there is no way to get it perfectly tight again. If the cover were removed it might be possible to use a heat gun to warp it back. It may or may not produce desirable results, but you might end up replacing the cover anyhow, so give it a shot.

Whatever you decide to try to remedy the issue, good luck.
