Is This A Good Deal on a 2002 Z28 Vert?
Is This A Good Deal on a 2002 Z28 Vert?
I found a 2002 Z28 convertible with 12,000 miles on it. It is an Auto transmission 35th Anniversary edition. The CARFAX report is clean and shows only one registered owner. It is available at a car lot in CA. They are asking $17,995. I'm also looking into a 2001 convertible SS with 22,000 miles on it for a similar cost. Any thoughts on which of the two would be a better deal? Also, anything in particular I should be on the lookout for when looking these cars over? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is it a red with checkerflag stripe SS? If not, its not a true anniversary edition...I'm pretty sure that in 2002 much like in 97, all cars had the writing 35th anniversary, but the "Editions" are different. If it is a true anniversary edition, then that price seems pretty reasonable for my area...even though it is an auto

That's not a bad price on an '02 ragtop. And no it is not the anniversary edition, but all of the '02s are badged with anniversary edition on the dash above and to the right of the radio (where previous years just say Camaro). It seems like all '02s are listed as anniversary editions.....
Given the similar prices, the 02 Z28 seems like a better deal than the SS simply based on the miles, but neither are high mileage. You just need to look at weather you intend to add the SS stuff to a Z28 to see if it is cost effective.

if your going to race your car at the track... dont buy the vert. Once you run one time with that car you will have to install a roll cage. go with a hard top

OK, I've got them down to $16,995 on the 02 Z28. I've really been looking for a 6 speed, but this seems like a really good deal on an Auto. Is this as good a deal as I think? Of course, I'll have an independent mechanic inspect the car before closing the deal. Any thoughts?

That sounds like a pretty good deal. When I was looking a few months ago, I almost picked up an 01 Z28 vert for $15,500 with 26k on it, but it was an auto, so I opted for my 02 hardtop for a little more.

OK, I need some help on this. I looked at the car and test drove it, everything looked good but it had some moisture in the trunk area. I had a mechanic come in and completely inspect the car. He found three issues that have me somewhat concerned.
1. The glass in the convertible top is leaking at the top where it has lost the seal with the top. This is where the water came in from. How difficult is this to fix?
2. He also found a small seep at the rear pinion seal. It is not dripping but shows some seepage. Should I be concerned about this and if so how big a deal is this to fix?
3. The first check of engine oil showed a slight wisp of moisture on the dipstick, but nothing on the oil filler cap. He ran the engine to normal temperature took a test drive and did a compression and basic engine block test. Everything checked out fine and he didn't see anything when he checked the engine again. Should I be worried about this?
Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
