How fast is your "street" car?

I have a goal of mid to low 11s N/A and maybe a mid 10 on spray. I'd like my car to have very good driveability. I'm thinking I will need at least a 383 with a cam in the mid 230s and high .500s. My current combo has run a best of 11.71 and still achieves 20 mpg on the highway.

I'd like to know a little bit about your combos and how streetable they are. Thanks

My combo has really good street manners and is pretty quick, that was my goal too, to keep stock like driving characteristics but have lots of power on tap. I went with a small cam, small heads, rock solid bottom end and tons of boost with a good sized fuel system . I dont know exactly how fast it is yet though cause I've yet to take it to the track, but as it sits now, full throttle at anything less than 50 MPH on street tires just produces a rolling burnout and starts trying to get sideways. Full details in my sig.

I guess I prefer to take the difficult route. The lt1. If the SS was an automatic, I probably would've modded it further. I really don't want to convert it over...besides, I like the feel of the lt1 better anyways. More old school

Times, mph in sig...Hopefully a bit better this year with the 3" TDs and the pending 4.10 gear swap...Gonna run it before the gear swap to see if the exhaust was worth anything, then see what the gears do..Car can be driven anywhere and gets 20 mpg on the highway while going to OC in May...I guess the 4.10s will end the decent mpg, though...All creature comforts still there: A/C, P/S, Radio, etc...3650ish race weight...

I'd love to crest the 120 mph mark this year...We'll see...

Hey Alan, I may have to hook up with you either on the way to OC or maybe meet up there. Amazing you're able to still get 20 mpg with that setup.

Hey Dave, lemme know...I'll pm you my cell #...As luck would have it I'm getting ready to call about a rental for OC now...and yeah it still gets 20 on the highway as long as I keep my foot out of it

The 4.10s will ruin the mpg for sure, but I'll live with it...

How much are you willing to sacrifice for those times? Weight is the enemy of performance. But for me, a street car needs creature comforts like AC, power steering, carpet, etc. And a lot of the things that make it drive nice also add weight - big wheels and tires, big brakes, upgraded suspension parts, and so on. The more weight you have, the more power you need. I wouldn't concentrate on a 1/4m. time as the sole parameter for a street buildup. Handling, comfort, braking, etc. are equally important. I'd concentrate on building a "balanced" machine. Tranny choice exemplfies this well. Best for the drags (auto with loose converter) is not best for the street (manny tranny).

I think if you spray your current setup, your goal is easily attainable. My 383 when it had a 230/232 cam in it was VERY streetable. It ran 11.8's N/A, and could have been 10 sec bound with some spray. I ended up going with a Procharger instead though. Here's a video of my car with the 383 N/A,
