Horn problem...

My horn works, with remote and alarm, but doesn't work when I hit the steering wheel.

any suggestions, friend suggested, loosen the bolts on the back of the steering wheel a little.

any others suggestions? And can I just remove the bolts on the back of the steering wheels to see the bracket and just see if the contacts are corroded without blowing the airbags in my face

Re: Horn problem...

Could be the horn switch. When you press on the horn that would engage the switch, the alarm engages it through a different wire.

If the pad itself has the horn switch - like my '99 - then if they are bad, I think that it is a one piece assembly, which means you'll have to buy the whole thing, airbag & all !

Let's hope that is not it.

It could be a contact problem in the column - with the horn pad off, you can see where the contact wire goes into the lockplate. Two small screwdrivers will allow you to "short" the horn (close the circuit) against the nut that holds the wheel in place - if the horn blows, the colum is not the problem.

Make sense ?

Re: Horn problem...

Do you hear a click when you press the the steering wheel? That would tell you your getting power to the relay..

But, if you're "remote" works then it sounds like the switch.

Re: Horn problem...

Before you go riping into the colum and blowing up airbags you should just test at the relay first. Usualy 2 constent hot feeds, one ground when you hit the buton and then 1 hot on the signal out wire to activate the horns. See what you have/dont have.
