well, i finally got some sort of answer as to what's been causing my misfire problem. (keep in mind most of this should be under warranty) they did a compression test and cylinder #3 was running at 45 psi, and all the others at 60 psi. so there's definately a problem with the 3rd cylinder. by the way what is normal compression for this engine?
so they have ruled out a bad intake gasket, and now suspecting a bent valve, or bad piston ring. but of course they won't know what's actually wrong for sure until they take apart the head!
so after getting this news i called up the dealership i bought the car from. i couldn't get ahold of the salesperson who sold me this lemon, so i called around and i learned that this same person is "leaving" (today was his last day i heard) and there's a new manager in now. this guy wasn't a total douchebag. we talked for 20 min, i explained my situation, and at the end of our conversation i mentioned the fact that i would be very interested in trading the camaro in for something of equal value. and (it sounded like he was about to bring this possibility up as well) he said that we might be able to do that. he said he would let me know today or tomorrow so we'll see.
so now i sit with a couple different options. '98 camaro, V6, 97k miles.
1) maybe it is just a bent valve. replace it and hope that something doesn't go wrong 2,000 miles later.
2) ask for a factory rebuilt motor
3) take the car back and get something of equal value
i would be willing to bring the car back, but i'm not looking for any old car. possibilities i've considered before: F-body, Mustang, or a Ferd Ranger. essentially i'd like a "sporty" coupe, but something with a little ***** (excluding gran prixs & monte carlo's) i would possibly consider a full-size truck, regular or extended cab, short box. but then again it's hard to really look at getting a decent truck for $6k.
