Holy Crap!!

i just took the car out for the 3rd or 4th time all spring tonite. I went over to a buddie's house cuz a few people were there. One of the guys asks me to take him for a ride, i do, i get on her a bit, and come back. ten or 20 minutes later, another one of my buddies asks me to let him see what she's got (winter of mods) i get outta the driveway, and hit it, through 1st 2nd 3rd, then i let off at about 85, putting it in neutral to coast to a slowdown. but the car is revvin out, the tack is bouncing off 6grand and wont let off. stuck at WOT (im no longer on the throttle or in gear) i turn the car off at about 60mph, and coast to the side of the road. the tack is still at 6 Grand, and the speedo is still at 60mph. we look under the hood for a stuck throttle cable. . . nothin. everything looks good. i start it back up, and its fine, i get goin, and just to see if itll happen again, i put it to the floor once more, and it sticks at WOT. . . again. i turn it off as i did last time. then i start it again, and its okay. i can drive it normal, but the two times that i put the hammer all the way to the floor it stuck at WOT. We looked at it in the garage, and cant figure it out. i even turned it on and revved it while the others watched the throttle plate in the garage, but it didnt stick. something seems wrong with the computer or something. ????help!

Re: Holy Crap!!

I had that happen to me once.

It ended up being the big hose clamp that holds the bellows on the TB. The part of the clamp with the screw on it was in just the perfectly wrong spot so it caused the throttle piece to interfere with the hose clamp.

I had to shut off the motor and pull to the side of the road as well.... I identified the problemn and drive home with a light foot so it didnt stick again. Fixing it was easy, I just loosened up the hose clamp, rotated it out of the way and re-tightened it.

I can't be computer related. Something has to be jamming the linkage like happened with Tracy's car above.

Re: Holy Crap!!

what about a throttle position sensor? and why would the guages stay at the same levels when i killed the car? that's what makes me think its computer. cuz if fiddled with the throttlre plate and gas pedal, and can't find anything.

Re: Holy Crap!!

Just check for what they said. Look for stuff interfering with the throttle movement.

This sounds crazy, but make sure your floor mats aren't getting in the way. I just had that happen a couple of days ago but mine only stuck about half throttle. Freaked me out, now i keep checking the mat at every stop. lol.

Re: Holy Crap!!

yeah i checked up on all that stuff, and nothing seems to be in the way. i took the intake elbow off, and cleaned inside, by the the throttle plate with some throttle body/carb cleaner. i got i little gunk out. so far the car hasn't done it again, so maybe that was it. my holley TB just showed up today too, so once i put that on, i might be good.
p.s. just to make sure where exactly is the TPS?? i know its on the TB, but which area on it? cuz i gotta remove that and futz with it to change out the TB, and maybe its what screwed up.
