High Output Alternator

I have a few questions.

1. How much amperage does the factory alternator put out at idle?

2. Where can I find a replacement higher output alternator?

Thanks!

The stock alternator puts out 140 amp max but not much at idle. WHY?

I thought the stock put out 120, but there is a 140 available for our cars.

I think 93's and early 94's had the 124 amp alternator, but late 94's on had the 140. If you have to get a new one just get the 140, it's a better part anyway.

yep, 140 is the best way to go IMO. that with an Lt4 starter, and an optima battery..should have no charging/starting issues for a while of course not sure what your issue is

93s had a 110 amp alternator. Mine put out 94 amps when we tested it.

I had a local shop rebuild mine for $150 to put out 170 amps. I think the 94+ cars can be built to put out 200 amps because they use a different stator.

basically the story goes that I decided to underdrive the **** out of my car. No charging problems... until I add an amp. Obviously the alternator will potentially need an upgrade to handle this. Driving I'm positive I will not have an issue.. idle is what i worry about. Last thing I want is to stall at a red light.

I put in a 200 amp alternator about a year ago and it drops low at idle. I've never had a problem with it running both fans, stereo w/ two amps, headlights, etc. all at once, but my stock alternator put out more at idle than this one does. I believe a lot of high amp alternators put out low power at idle. You might want all the specs before you buy a high amp one.

Thats funny, my 93z came with a 124amp alt...... And all the data I have seen, have been 124amp......

Now the V6 version used a 105amp.....

Did you buy your car new?????? Someone might have replaced it with the wrong alt.......
