Unhappy Hey look!! another no start thread!!

I started my car up this morning and it started a little bit harder then usual. It was kind of like the battery was low, but it cranked and fired right up. I went to start it again tonite and got nothing, no cranking at all. The dash lights went on and all the other stuff works. So i hooked up the jump pack and still nothing, no crank, no starter clicks...nothing. Could it just be the ignition switch? Just looking for other things too look for if anyone else has had the problem as well. One morething to mention, when I turn the key on everything lights up as usual. When I turn the key to the start position, the radio display and dash lights(not the back lighting for the guages) go off then it all comes right back as soon as i release the key from the start position. In case you dont see it in my sig, I have a 95 z-28 with no mods yet.

I have had an ignition switch fail on me. The car would not start.

I determined that it was the ignition switch because everything electrical would work but the cluster was dead.

Reading your description of symptoms seems like your cluster is still working. You may have a VATS problem.

I just put in a new ignition lock cyl last week and had the dealer cut the key for it. It has been working fine with no security light coming on except when I initially turn the key to on but then it goes out after a few seconds like it should.

Well after trying a new ignition switch and getting nothing happening I was getting a bit frustrated. So i started to think of anything I had touched when I was cleaning the car out and put in missing screws and stuff. Then I remebered that there was a set of 3 relays that were wired in behind the glove box. I am unsure at this point what they go to but I grabbed them and moved them and the car starts now. When I get to the shop in the morning I can look on alldata to find out what they are and see about fixxing up the hack job that was done under there. There are 3 of the 5 pin relays under there (30, 85, 86, 87 and 87a on each). Anyone have anythoughts on this? I have another black relay similar to this on the side near the door behind the glove box that plugs directly into a factory connector as well as a larger grey one going into a factory plug. Lastly there is a small bundle of wires that has been cut off, a red, green, yellow and black if i remeber correctly, also just behind the glove box. I dont have the light in the glove box so I am just guessing maybe they go to the light? I dont know. If no one has any ideas I will just pull the wiring diagrams and trace them.

Sounds like the car has some kind of aftermarket alarm system on it maybe... you mention wiggling the relays that were not plugged into factory connectors.
