Hey guys question... laptop tuning? and another question too....
new member... seeing all of these import guys with their laptop tune able cars is driving me crazy, especially since I keep hearing rumors every now and then pop up that such an animal exists for my third gen to let me do it.
the situation is currently that I've owned this car for a couple of years, and part due to not really having a place to work on it, my lazyness, incooperative work hours, and weather I've never had it run. not once...
it is an 86 z28. with of course the 305 with Tpi. Currently it has a 2.73 limited slip diff, (out of my first car which was an 85 v6) a turbo 350.. (which is still tripping trans fluid two years post filter change out the back of the trans which admitedly is at a lower angle than the front of the car... could this be due to angle of the car sitting? or perhaps something worse?)
I have a few engine options that I may or may not use. that being said, I most probably will be placing the 85 vette motor into the car that I have. I don't know what performance goodies I am putting into the car quite yet because there is also a 400 block that I might want to take down to a 320.
either way of course I plan on putting as many goodies that I put on the 305 onto the other motor. such as the larger runners, injectors, home made ram air ducts, better maf sensor (if it exists... yet another rumored part I can't seem to find.. stupid google..)
I might even end up going into a 2nd motor situation because the idea of the destroked 400 really appeals to the rev loving part of my brain...
I'd rather not have to keep buying custom chips.. I imagine that would get rather expensive, fairly quickly.
Has anyone else heard of such an animal to make our poor obd 1 dinosaur tpi have laptop tuneability? even a replacement conversion kit to bring it into modern flashable obd 2s would be acceptable...
I'll post pics of the car up sooner or later.
Yes I realise two years is a long time. and yes it is an eye sore... but the t tops, the tpi, and just -something- about that car made me take it in...
which brings me to my next question... I have an 85 non z nose. I know that one can replace the other easily, that being said.. does anyone sell the ground effect strip for the nose? or is it removable on the 86? I have seen no indication that it has and the bumper seems slimmer on the edges than my 85 nose....

as far as i know, the only way to tune a car prior to 94 was by burning a chip. so basically it is NOT tunable by a laptop.
GM ditched the "chip" controlled computers in favor of ECMs in 94+
sorry
as for the bumper...check ebay or the graveyards.

damn. so no aftermarket company has stepped up for our cars?
I'd be willing to shell out cash for an aftermarket ecm.. but I rather like the tpi setup most every efi kit I've seen is most definatly not tpi.
and all the graveyards have noses worse than mine... *L* ebay has been less than helpful with this in the past
