hesitation issue - advice needed

okay - finally got my 97 z28 on the road and through salvage inspection so i can actually get a chance to drive it

well - car hasnt been run really in about 2 years and still has same tank of gas so i drove it all day today - and put premium in- heres where my question starts -

car is running a bit rough which i attribute to not running for a long time - figure engine needs to be broken in slowly - well it seems that when i bring it over 3k in just about everygear feels almost like someone is putting clutch in - bad loss in power till i shift - under 3k the thing pulls hard

couple good mechanics checked it out and told me to run through couple tanks of gas taking it easy to burn through **** and then have full tuneup changing everything-

also it seams car is throwing a code reading misfire on cylinder 4 and 8 every now and then- mechanic thinks is only bad gas- but im getting a SES light which stays on - supposedly its linked to a shifter code but mechanic wasnt sure- every now and then the light blinks a bit

okay i know this post is long and rambling but any ideas on what could be wrong with the car - or do u think i should just run it a bit real easy and see what clears up after tune up?

thnx guys

edit- thinking has to do with CAGS but not sure how that feels- and what the code could be for

My car had hessitation problems when it had a clogged cat. If that helps at all. Maybe you need to change the oil if it has been in there for two years.
