HELP! Should i buy this??
HELP! Should i buy this??
Well i've finally found someone selling their third gen by my house.
It's an 1989 Rs, 305tbi, freshly rebuilt 700R4, t-tops, white. Only problems or negatives are the 6 inch long indentation on the passenger side fender which the owner is including a brand new fender with the sale of the car. The only other real negative is the mileage, the odometer reads 79,xxx but its clear that this engine has about 180,000 on it. I know these 305's run almost forever but mine died out at about 156,000. Have any of you guys ran your 305's 200,000 miles before??Paint is original and fading, rust covers several spots of the car(but mostly surface rust) One thing that suprised me was the headliner was fine! i was shocked!
This guy is the original owner on the car and has all original documentation. He even said he dropped the tank down out of it and put a new fuel pump in. Car also has new front rotors.
He's asking $1800 on the car, but i seem to think its a little too high for an 89 Rs with a banged up fender. Has some rust on it, but 90% of it is surface rust so im not too worried. I asked him if he was willing to negotiate on the price and he said he could go $1600 at his best. Am i the only person that thinks thats overpriced??
I'm planning on letting the car sit for awhile and see if nobody else steals it on me. Then in a few weeks bring him $1200 and see what he says. What do you guys think???
I really am not buying this car for its current set-up. I was hoping on eventually running a LT1/T-56 combo when i saved up all the money.

odometer
No, that wasn't what i meant. On the 89's the mileage rolls over to zero once you hit 100,000 miles. So the Rs im looking at SAYS it has 79,xxx miles, but in reality it has 179,xxx. Thats why im a little concerned about it.

Well he did say he was the original owner and does have documentation with the car. clean title. The car has sat outside for 4 years he said. But when he fired it up and ran it around town it was running fine! This car might only have 79,000 on it, but then again it might have 179,000.
Im planning on offering about $1000 this weekend. Will get pics up afterwards.

Um....just keep saving your money then. I just bought a 93 Formula in excellent condition for $3000 off eBay! No rust, no dents, no major problems runs like NEW with 133,000mi on it. I also have a 91 Firebird...(besides my 95 Z28) there is no comparison between the 3rd and 4th generation F-bodies. I love the 91...BUT, it handles like trash compared to a 4th gen
