help! mouse nest in air vents!
help! mouse nest in air vents!
so here's my problem: i put my 2000 z28 in the shop for the winter and of all the places and other vehicles the mice could have nested, they went to the camaro. my blower fan kind of vibrates now so i think a blade might have been chipped or broken. what do i need to remove to clean this mess out, and are there any write-ups explaining how to do it?
Only thing I can think of is a shopvac - it's easy to remove the motor/blower assembly, just unplug the motor and remove 3 screws, then pulls out as a unit. Hope the little critters didn't chew on any wiring.
rodent poo is def bad for your health when inhaled. seeing as it would be in a heated box with a fan whirling i would def vac the thing out then......
they sell a foam spray that will disinfect the system. might be worth looking into

They make a product for car a/c systems whether its any different than household stuff, your guess is as good as mine. I worked at a Dodge dealer and we had some stuff the BG sold but I'm sure you can find something at an autoparts store. The stuff we had plugged into the duct just after the blower motor (you had to drill a small hole) then insert a platic rod with alot of little holes and hood up a spray can then turn the blower motor on high it got rid of all kinds of dead rodent smells and other things I dont really want to know what were. After you were done you left the rod in place for easy access incase you ever needed to do it again and to seal the hole but it wasn't a very big hole to to remove it I wouldn't have seen a problem with.
ok i'll stop by the local chevy dealership and pick some up.
i removed the blower motor last night and found the strangest crap in the blower wheel. there were 6 cig. butts and a flap off of a home preg. test!
there were no remainders of a mouse nest, so could it be somewhere else in my ducting? when i first turned on my blower after it had been sitting, there was quite abit of dust and a little hair and grass that came out but now its almost clean. do you think it could be somewhere else.
it still smells bad in there after i cleaned what i could (detailed the inside and cleaned the blower) , so would i just be better off ripping the whole dash apart and looking for a body or is that a complete PITA? any write ups on how to do this? its such a perfect car so having something like this happen really ruins it. i HAVE to fix it.
