Help with keyless entry

I just bought a 97 z28 in good condition except I have these 2 problems:

1) My key fob is not unlocking doors or disarming the alarm so I replaced the battery and it still isnt working. I putting the BCM in program mode like it says on shoebox's site and in the owners manual and I press and hold lock and unlock on the fob for 16 seconds (and then longer) but nothing happens. So my question is, is there any way to definately test this little key fob to make sure its working so I could buy a new one or if it's not the key fob what else could be the problem?

2)My driver's door does not unlock with the key, but I can lock it with the key after it's already unlocked. I'm thinking it's the linkage, but if this is a common problem can you guys help me out so I know what to do if I take my door apart.

Right now I'm having to unlock the passenger door with key and hit the power unock button. And if I forget to disarm the alarm with the ignition key after i lock up Im having to crawl in fast to shut if off via the igition since my key fob doesnt work. It's a little annoying...

Anyways thanks for the help and reading my post.

Chris

If you could temporarily borrow a friend's or co workers key fob, you could program it to work on your car - then at least you would know that if it worked, the problem is your fob. If it doesn't, you have to look elsewhere.

If the alternate fob worked, then you likely have a connection problem in your fob. Take a close look at all the soldered connections and see if one is not being made.

May not be your problem, but make sure it's the right remote. To check look up the FCCID# at http://autotechs.com/fcc/fccidsearch.htm

Actually, you may be right. I have keyfob ABO0204T P/N 10246215. That site says it's listed for use with: 1999-2002 INTRIGUE, 1997-2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX, CUTLASS, CENTURY, 1997-2000 BUICK REGAL, 1997-1902 MONTE CARLO.

I found on their site this key fob, ABO1502T P/N 16245100-29 (4 button), and it's listed for use with 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 Camaro Z/28 SS And RS.

Am I correct in assuming the dealership mixed up key fobs and gave me the wrong one? Could someone check their working fob for a part number please?

They're $80 from that site is that a good place to buy them?

If that works, I can at least hold off trying to fix my lock for now.

Thanks for your help,

Chris

Nevermind, I just answered my own question via shoebox's site. I do indeed have the wrong fob as his listed part number is the same as the one posted above for the camaro fob.

Thank you shoebox for such a great site.

Could anyone tell me where the best place to buy one of these things would be? $80 seems a little steep for a silly little remote.

Also, any ideas with that stuck lock?

Thought that might be the case since you just got the car. Check ebay for remotes...or make the dealership give you the right one.

I'd take it back and get the right one, or a refund. Autozone also sells them.

I'm having the same problem with my '00 Z. My fob works fine, so it's never been a problem so far. Still, it would be nice to fix it in case the fob quits working.

Would there be any way to test the keyless entry without a remote? My car came with a remote, but it was a viper remote and it never worked, so is there any way to test to see if a factory remote would work without using someone else's fob? I tried to reprogram the remote like a factory remote and the doors did cycle if that helps at all.

Resolved after I ordered 2 correct key remotes (which took forever to get here). Anyways, programmed them to the BCM with the owner's manual and they work just fine.

Cool - glad you got it. Sell the other one on ebay.

A "friend" of mine told me there is a way to re-program key fobs (same type, but made for a different vehicle) as long as you have the fcc # and the part #. Is there any truth to this statement? I'm in a business where I tend to have a lot of fobs laying around and this would solve my problem (no working fob for the Camaro) cheap and easy.

For what its worth, mine quit working altogether after a few years. I took it apart and when I pulled the circut board out I noticed that the underside of the rubber button piece and the contact side of the board was covered in a kind of gunk, similar to Vaseline. After wiping everything down with 91% isoprophyl alcohol and putting it all back together, Presto! No more mashing on the buttons, only a light touch is needed.
