Unhappy HELP!!! Diagnosis

Sup guys havent been around much,,, lots changed....But well here it goes

My temo gauge jumps off to the right and the check gage light comes on.. it happened first when i drove to venice and i freaked out... (worse was that it was 10 mins after i smoked a blunt) I stopped and turned off the engine for about 10 mins and was fine... There were no signs of overheating,,, not even a hissing from the radiator... Just a few hours ago i drove to sherman oaks and half way there up a hill the gauge drops to the right... I believed it to be a sensor mishap so i kept driving.... SES gets tripped and abot a second later i lose all power in the engine, meaning i stept on the petal and even downshifted and i couldnt get up the hill... i pull over on 405 and put her in neitral... temo gauge centers out... chill to drive....

This repeates and as i would see the gauge rise i would drift in neutral and give it time to center

I noticed on my action packed ride home that the temp gauge would rise quicker at a lower rpm (hence why i drove home in 5th gear) i cruised at about 2300rpm vs the 1600 or so in 6th.
I dont know but doesnt the engine run more rich in the lower rpm band and could cause it to heat up quick? maybe my A/F curve is fizzled

i also need to check the codes...

Anyone help?? any leads? i dont want my baby to die

It runs cooler at high RPM because there is more coolant being circulated by the pump at higher RPM.

No, the engine doesn't run richer in the lower RPM band... the 14.7:1 A/F ratio is hard coded in to the PCM and the engine should always run at the same A/F ratio, except at WOT. Minor variations in A/F ratio aren't going to cause problems of the magnitude you are having.

As noted... pull the code(s).
