Heat Shield for Intake?

Hey guys

So right now I have an aluminum intake for my Z28.

As the engine gets hotter and hotter the intake pipe gets hotter and hotter to the point where its uncomfortable to touch. I'm sure its robbing some performance, and possibly making the engine run hotter?

Is there something I can buy to wrap it up in that will keep the heat off. Like a heat shield or something?

Thanks

By "intake pipe" I assume you mean everything before the throttle body. I do not know of any purpose built duct for this but there are lots of heat shielding that could be used. For instance, the aluminized insulation that is used for the interior could be cut into strips and formed around the intake, and held in place with aluminum tape. Or header rap could be use and covered with aluminum tape, etc.
Heck, just putting aluminum tape around it would reflect a lot of heat and would be pretty easy to do.

Yea, everything before the Elbow is aluminum

What would be the best place to go and get it?

www.techflex.com also makes a aluminum/fiberglass reflective wrap with adhesive or velcro, they can point you to a dealer too.

On the s10board a guy actually got out a thermometer and did a bunch of tests on this. Don't remember everything but It basically came out that the air was moving so fast that the temperature of the pipe really didn't mean squat. This was K&Ns logic to using plastic, then they started making metal intakes also.
