Headlight switch problem...seeking help

I have a94 camaro and when I hit my high beam / low beam switch on the steering column it never clicks and my headlights stay on low all the time. If you pull back on it really hard it will click and switch but I'm affraid that if I keep hitting it hard then it will break off. I know where the switch is under the dash. I can see t open and close together. I can close it to where it click easy if I push it with my finger. Is htere a way to tighten up that cable that connects the switch on the column and the switch under the dash. Please help.... I really liked my bright lights when I had them

Re: Headlight switch problem...seeking help

There is a metal rod that goes from the lever in the column down to the switch under the dash. (it is actually fastened to the lower column)

The metal rod can bend or otherwise get misalligned causing a malfunction as you are experiencing. You stated that you have tested the switch with your finger and it works fine, so that would seem not to be the problem.

Pulling the column is a PITA, but might be the only way to get it all apart and open enough to really see what is going wrong between the rod, lever and switch. The rod travels down the top of the column and is hard to see with the column in the car.

good luck.
