headlight problem pop ups

just recently i have had problems with my headlight driverside. When i go to turn them on it will only go about half way up and then the dreaded grinding noise. When i went out there one day to check it out i noticed when i do it manuly the the *** to do it will acully move in and o ut some. this lead me to belive that maybe it was just a bad motor. then the more i think about it could it be the nylon gear fully wore out, I have done the free fix on that motor once already. Tell me what you think. Id hate to buy a new motor when i could just buy a new gear thanks

If you know how to do the gear swap, do it and save money. I don't have the time or energy for it so I'd just buy the new motor. Sounds like it's out on your car.

If you have taken it apart and glued it back together, the epoxy may have came loose. I got brass gears from Brent F. and they work great. After doing it though, I've had the passenger motor out three times to fix it. The epoxy didnt seem to hold up worth a **** all of the times. It wiggled a little bit and started stripping the brass gear. This past time, I went crazy with the epoxy. Had to even grind some of it off to get it to bolt back in the car. Its held for maybe 15-20 operations. I hope to get rid of the car before it screws up again.

The epoxy problem baffles me. Most don't have any problems but there are some that no matter what just can't seem to get the epoxy (even store bought stuff) to work??? When this has happened, it is best to just drill some small holes in the cover and screw the cover to the edge of the housing with some very small screws WITH the epoxy. This fixes it but I can't explain why it sometimes needs to be done while most times the epoxy works just fine?
