Having a problem with my BOSE stereo???

I recently purchased a 94 Z28 with a BOSE stereo system in it. When I got the car the stereo was locked so I called a buddy at a dealership and we got it unlocked, after I got it unlocked I found it didn't work anyways. I went to the stereo shop and purchased an inexpensive new Clarion deck and installed it. It works great if I keep it turned down quite low but when I start turning it up it starts cutting out, it sounds like someone is turning the volume **** up and down really fast. Anyone ever hear of this before? How can I fix it.

first thing I would look for is loose wires or shorted wires.
check and make sure all is grounded properly and the connections are good

Re: Having a problem with my BOSE stereo???

The problem is that the factory Bose stereo puts out 2 ohms to the speakers. The amplifier at the speakers then boosts up the output. You just put in an aftermarket stereo which puts out 4 ohms. The amplifier then boosts up the output. The speakers are not compatible to the aftermarket HU (head unit). So therefore is going to sound like butt. There are 2 solutions that I know of.

1. Scocshe sp?, makes an adapter that you splice in at the HU to drop the power load down so your speakers can handle it. I picked one up from Wal-Mart for about $20.

2. Replace all the speakers with aftermarket speakers and an amp to push them. Price here is all dependant on what you put in.

Good Luck.

That is what I had to do when I replace my stock Bose head unit with a stock non Bose head unit. If you change out the speakers you to aftermarket or shange the headunit back to a Bose headunit, you should have no more problems.
