Maybe its something under the car. Have you looked over the rear suspension?

Look for loose bolts or broken parts under there.

I'm getting a similar noise, sounds like the rear window is loose or something when I hit a bump. Driving me nuts. Same thing happened to my 91 Formula years ago when it got about 90k on it. Couldnt figure it out then. I checked everythig on my 95 Formula, it started around 92k, and can't find a problem. All the suspension is aftermarket and looks to be in good shape. I'm going to replace the shocks in the rear with Blisten HD's next week. Hope that fixes it.
If anyone has any luck post so I can figure this out.
Thanks

Did you make sure the hatch lid isn't out of adjustment?

I just looked at it and is seems fine. No weird gaps from the left to right side. Seems nice and snug when I close it. Latch seems tight. Bolts up at the top are tight and secure. I at first thought it might be the window, but I can't find anything wrong there.

A simple check would be to make sure the spare tire and jack are secured properly. Also, worn out shocks can lead to road noise and harshness as well.

Jack and tire are nice and secure. Even took them out before and still made the noise. A friend suggested the noise might actually be in the front, but it might sound like it's coming from the rear? Im not too sure about that. I even removed the rear interior panels, can't find anything loose.

It could just be chassis noise too. My car made alot of noise, especially over bumps and dips. After I had a set of SFCs welded in, the car became as quiet as a mouse.

I think that's part of the problem. I had SLP Sub-frames welded in about 5 years ago and the car has been solid and quiet. The sub-frames are solid and the welds are not broken. That's one of the reasons why this noise drives me insane. The car was rock solid and quiet until about 3,000 miles ago. Hopefully the new shocks might help.

Try backing out the little rubber bumpers that the hatch lays on. They are round rubber discs that screw into the tail of the car on either side.

Never tried that. I'll give it a shot. Is that something that would just wear out or come out of adjustment? Just seems weird that my 3rd gen and my 4th gen had the same problem at about the same milage.
