ok so i have a 99 Z28 6 spd and tonight i was out cruising around and i smell this god awful smell and i was thinking shoot smells like my clutch is hot so i headed towards home( 6 blocks away) and on my way home i here this loud knock like something was hitting up thru my center console and every time just let out on clutch to give it gas it would knock or every time i let off gas n low gears any ideas??? (i just had the clutch rebuilt not even 3 weeks ago)

 

Its kind of weird the sound included a smell of burned clutch, because otherwise a loud knock from that area is caused by a broken tranny mount

Seeing as how the clutch has recently been worked on, it could possibly be the issue. Was the clutch noticeably slipping?

 

Tranny mount is shot... get a new one...

 

Start with trans mount- if smell continues you have other issues, but the clunk is the tranny hitting the tunnel.

 

well actually the smell was from something else you now smell it every time you go over the bridge over the tracks... but it actually was that long arm that is right next to driveshaft the bolt on the top side of bracket vibrated out and every time i gave it throttle that arm swung up and hit right under console right next to armrest area... so put a new bolt in and haven't had problem since... idk what that arm is called or bar is called... but that was the problem.... thanks for comments guys this message board is really helpful...

 

That would be the torque arm.
