Going to part out my Camaro (NOT an offer of parts).

im nto sure if this is the right thread to post this.
i may have a transmission issue and i do not want to spend the money rebuilding it( i have done it before).

im most likley going to part out my car as much as i can.
what im asking is what will i need?
i have access to any tools i need..but i have no lift.

i want to keep a lot of my bolt on mods, suspensions parts, interiors ans whatever i can get out of the engine bay as well as the rims and tires.
how much time will this take me to do? not the selling of parts..just the dismantling of my car.

thanks

Sounds like the last transmission was a poorly built one . you should contact Frank
at CPT "12SCNDZ" and buy one of the baddest 4L60E's on the planet !!!
if its just a transmission problem

Is the car in bad shape that you want to part it out? I have two lt1 cars outside right now with bad transmissions and one blown engine and I wouldn't part them out.

I found a local guy to me that is going to rebuild both pretty cheap for me.

You can buy a rebuilt transmission from cpt for $700

re: Going to part out my Camaro (NOT an offer of parts).

thats a good price and then the labor is goign to cost me...
i have already gone through 2 transmissions
its at 109,000 miles
my car has its share of issues..
suspension is going
my differential is making noise
some ripped leather seats
most body panels misaligned
body damage including multiple dings and dents
front bumper cracked
front side lights cracked
leak from the heads

and i just replaced my rotors and tires.
i think itsworth it more to take it apart,

If this turns into a parts for sale thread, it's going to get moved to the Marketplace. Since it isn't engine specific, it needs to be moved anyway.

Basically, you are asking "how do I totally disassemble my car?" You would be better off when you get a specific request for a part, asking how to remove it.

In very general terms, you need a complete set of metric and SAE tools. GM randomly used both metric and standard fasteners on these cars. An air operated impact wrench will be critical for some parts held on with rusty bolts. You are going to need at least a set of 4 jack stands to remove parts from under the car. A floor jack can help with removing heavy parts like the trans or the rear axle assembly.

Additionally, you haven't told us anything about the car - what year, what model, what engine, what trans, are there any major mods? Without that info, it's even harder to help you. My thought was to direct you to a link that would allow you to download a factory manual for the car, which will tell you how to remove virtually any part. But I don't know which year you have. I realize you originally posted this in LT1 Based Engine Tech, so we could assume you have a 93-97 LT1 and you mentioned tranny problems, so we could assume you have an auto trans.

But why make people guess.... you need to provide the required info to get decent responses.

Re: Going to part out my Camaro (NOT an offer of parts).

I'm actually interested in this thread too. I'm not sure whether to do an engine rebuild on my 94 which I just had the Transmission rebuilt and Opti done on as well as various emissions. Basically I spent 6,000 in 2 months and now i'm stuck with an engine that has a problem in cylinder 7.

Basically thinkin cuz I have these essentially new parts with less than a thousand kilometers on them not sure, I posted the question in my other thread so i'm not really asking here just interested in how to go about parting out a Camaro the right way.
