Going from manual to power windows?

I think I'm about to take the step from manual to power windows on my '96Z. I'm getting a little fed up with having to unbuckle and lay out across the seats to roll down the passenger window.

With that said, I'm trying to figure out exactly what I need? I know I'm going to need the motors, will they just attach to whatevers left in the door after I remove the manual assembly? And, the wiring? I already have power door locks, is the wiring integrated or will I have to get an entirely new wiring harness? Will that new harness connect the power windows and the power locks, which means I would need to remove the harness I currently have for my locks? Can I hard wire everything if it's just the windows or does it have to be ran through the fuse box?

Any info would help. I've done a couple searches, but only got bits and pieces.

Thanks,
Jason

You can do it but it will take a lot of work and you will have to build the harness for it. You will need two power window regulators w/ motors (I have these for sale if you want them), the switches and either a stock harness of a diagram and a lot of wire so you can build it your self.

How much for the parts you have? It's looking like I can pretty much piece the stuff together with a little eBay work, but I don't like going that route.

My car is green (the forest green color). Sucks we're on opposite sides of the country. What color do you have?

you will need the regulator's and harness, also you will have a hole in your doors where the crank comes out that if you want to fix it right you will have to buy door panels. I am doing the opposite, going to crank

i think this might be a big PITA for you, just keep the manual windows...... two less things to break and spend money on

Don't mean to jump into your thread, but, what about going from Power to Manual. Is it easy to do? Sniffin94 you say your going the way I am asking about. How is it done? What kind of weight savings do you think it will be. I have never seen a 93-02 Z28 without power windows, though I haven't seen too many around here. Thanks

Re: Going from manual to power windows?

The wieght saving may be around ten pounds which is what I am going for. If you were building a full race car you would either go lexan, or if you wanted to run a class that had to have glass windows you could take all the power stuff out and build an aluminum bracket to hold the window up. That way you could ditch the heavy regulators too.

It is fairly easy to do. You have to have the regulators and crank. Pull the door panel, pull the power windom motor, pull regulator. putn new regulator in. drill holes in door panel for cranks. put panel back on put crank on. Thats pretty much it.
