Generic 99 Camaro Performance Question

yeah I just signed up here, I'm a 2nd Gen Camaro Guy. But I respect all. My Question is, what would a Stock 99 Camaro LT1 6 Speed with aftermarket exhaust run in 1/4mi times ? the owner is 18 (3 yrs older than my son.) the owner is non stop about how fast the 99 he just got is. my son is 15 and will be 16 in June. the 99 Camaro owner is on my son to race and saying how he will eat the 74 Camaro. this is mostly High School Kid BullSh*t I know. (this will be at the local 1/4mi drag strip) the 74 Camaro LT is running now, but it's not finished yet. but by june when my sons 16 we will have it done, it will be a Vortec Headed 350 and a Borg Warner T10 4 Speed with a 10 bolt posi and 373s. now it has the slaper traction bars. between now and june it will just get the Vortec heads & a cam and 373s with cal tracs put on it. we have all these parts. they have been in the garage stash pile for a while now, everything but the cam. I'm just wondering how this 74 Camaro with a vortec headed 350 and a B&W T10 4 Speed and a 10 Bolt with 373s will do aginst the 99 LT1 6 speed Camaro. what do you think ?

planed final stage for the 74 Camaro when my sons a senior or the summer he graduates. will be a BBC, Temec 5 Speed, 35 Spline f*rd 9" and a few other goodies. the BBC parts are just starting to fill in the stash pile.

thanks for your help.

If the 99 hooks will probly run hi to mid 13's

Will probly smoke a vortec headed 350......whats the rest of your combo? cam intake etc. weight of car......

Also its going to be a drivers race with 2 manual trans....the 99 wil make more power all around so he has an advantage, learn to drive it like a pro

I think the 99 will take the race (if the guy can drive the stick). Even stock, it's pretty fast. It is easily capable of low 13s.

If it's a 99, its not an lt1, its an ls1. the lt1s were in the 93-97 camaros, while the ls1 was in the 98-02s.

I'm taken the stock 1974 350 and adding the vortec heads cam & intake it has headers ect.. the cam will prob be idle to 6500 or 1500 to 6500 rpm range. no cam picked yet, so no cam specs yet just guessing. intake will be a edelbrock rpm air gap peformer, and we just bought the 74 last week, so it hasn't been weighed yet. I've looked at vortec headed 350 dynos in the 400 to 425HP Range. but this is a budget deal (I will have to figure CR and a few other things to pick a cam) this is a stock 1974 350 with 76cc heads. the 74 will have 15" L60s rear tires. the ole stock 74 350 with 76cc heads is prob around 8:5.1CR. then we will put the 64cc vortec heads on it. I was hoping this budget 350 would run in the mid 13s. we shall see.

thanks guys

stock for stock yeah the ls is a little faster.

I think if you work the 74.....converter/gears.....a good tire/suspension the right cam etc. you will have something. I would get the comp. as high as possible on pump gas.....even then you will be close to the LS1....and may barely make the same power

We will have some fair meats on the rear and cal tracs and 90 10 shocks. my son bought the Camaro with money he earned working at the John Deer Implement Dealer, so I will help him with the rest of it. but the vortec headed 350 is just a ****ter for the boy to get use to some HP & Gears. then a BBC is going in with a F*rd 9" rear. we have a Builder BBC under the bench and a set of fresh worked over GM 049 castings too. I'm not 100% set on the heads but there not bad and I have them.

so you guys welcome us 2gen guys too ? or is it just F Body here ?

Thanks A Lot Guys !
