Gear selecter question

OK so I have my 95z with a 4l60e with a 2.73 rear end. I can't put my shifter into first gear and I've read on ls1 tech that all I should have to do is pull the plates out of the center console and take the "button" that is blocking 1st gear selections. Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about doing this. Are there any negative effects of doing this? Thanks a bunch

Sorry for not answering the question, but why exactly do you want to be able to manually place it in 1st gear?

Re: Gear selecter question

the 2-3 shift gets more line pressure if the selector is in OD, a good reason to not worry about manually selecting gears.

Even for a burnout you want to get the tranny into a higher gear to get wheelspeed up so manual 1st is not good there, though with factory programming it will I believe upshift to 2nd anyway.

Re: Gear selecter question

If you take off the center console you will see what you have to remove. It's very basic.
