gauge Q?

I saw this camaro with a triple gauge pod and he has oil temp, boost, and vacuum. What is the purpose of the vacuum gauge and what does it read..?

Boost gauges also display vacuum. A vacuum gauge is used to monitor the intake manifold. Loss of vacuum would be a warning that you have a leak in your intake system that would cause poor performance.

Yes..... I just have a vacuum gauge to help me monitor my heavy foot.... You just splice into a vacuum hose with a three way connection..... At idle my vacuum is around 18 in hg, so on the highway I try and maintain that for gas mileage.... It helps..

I bet you'll get false intake vacuum readings connecting to this source; there's a vacuum reservoir in that line that will affect your readings. T'ing off a connection directly off the intake manifold provides an accurate reading. It will not matter much if the gauge is just for eye candy, but if you want to track down an intake leak it would make a difference.

Are you sure an LT1 4th Gen is the same as an LS1? I don't know the answer, but its something to keep in mind.

Good catch Fred, I didn't catch that it was an LS1. Still believe there would be a vacuum tank for the HVAC controls though.
