Gas Smell

After I drive my 97 z28 and shut off the engine I can smell gas outside by the driver rear quarter. Ive only noticed it yesterday. Im guessing it might have something to do with the carbon canister but im not sure. The ses light hasn't come on. Also if I go up close near the gas cap I can hear air leaking for a like a minute after the car is shut off.

Try replacing your gas cap.

If you can hear air flowing through the gas cap, the gasket is defective. Its supposed to be a sealed system.

If that's not it, could also be rotted rubber lines connecting the fuel tank vent to the charcoal EVAP canister in the drivers side rear fender, or the canister may be saturated with fuel.

Same deal for my 95. Gas smell but the OEM cap has been replaced with a lock. I'm sure ^ this is the answer.
