Gaining Traction W/ 4.10s

Well after I put the gears in 1st gear is pretty much useless. Is this something that some sticky tires can fix, or is it more involved with some suspension work? Car is pretty much stock other than that. (have Pep Boys tires now )

Suspension mods will definitely help, but the best thing you can do is some sticky tires. I put in 4.10s, realized that traction was a joke, and bought drag radials the next day.

What kind of suspension mods? SFCs, Torque Arm, Panard Bar, Strut Tower Brace?

get some LCA's and the weld-in relocation brackets first, maybe a panhard rod as well and see how that helps things. i would do the LCAs and relocations before anything else though.

strut tower brace won't get you anything, and the panhard bar would be minimal. SFCs and torque arm would help out, as well as LCAs and brackets, like Makaveli said. I think the biggest would be the LCAs/brackets and torque arm.

LCAs are lower control arms right? If they are only on the front how do they help traction in the rear?

Re: Gaining Traction W/ 4.10s

if im thinking the way youre thinking, then there are 2 lower control arms that connect the rearend to the car too, and they are stamped and flimsy.

does a torque arm help on the street? i know you can adjust the angle to be negative so itll hook better, but can you leave it that way around town and everything? i was always under the impression it only made a big difference at the track, but if it makes a difference other than that, then that probably goes hand in hand with the LCA's.

Ohhhhh, I thought you meant the tubular lower control arms for up front. I see what your saying now.

Get frame conectors,first--torque arm,second-LCA,third and don't worry about the panhard rod,it does nothing for traction.

Re: Gaining Traction W/ 4.10s

I've got LCA's and SFC's in my car, and I've never noticed a huge difference by having them. However, I've had both 3.73's and now 4.10's in my car, NO traction with 3.73's, LOTS of traction with 4.10's (doesn't make sense, right?) but NEW TIRES this year, which help out a lot!

IMO, you can do a lot with the stock suspension, but you need TIRES more than anything! The other stuff doesn't hurt, but won't do squat in comparison to what a set of tires will do. Oh, and BTW, I'm cutting 1.9xx 60' times with street tires!

Re: Gaining Traction W/ 4.10s

I just ordered the LCAs, and a strut tower brace to stiffin up the chassis. And Im supposed to be meeting up with a board member to buy some drag radials by the end of the week. I guess that should help a little. Ill probably order some SFCs within the next week or 2.
