i wouldnt let your gas get that low.....sediment from the bottom of the tank can get sucked up into your injectors easier......i rarely let mine go below half tank....as far as yoyr question? im not too sure...how many miles you can go after the light comes on

I'm wondering if maybe draining these tanks every 50k miles or so isnt a good idea? and if so, is there an easier way to drain the tank to get sediment out than taking it down?

Keep a good fuel filter in it and you wont have a problem.

I thought the LS1 cars had plastic tanks? I have taken many of these tanks out...never seen any sediment....plus you have the sox/strainer on it so I don't think it would even be an issue

Yep, plastic tanks. That is why some LT1 owners have gone through the trouble of swapping over fuel tanks to save some pounds.
