Fuel pump install question
Fuel pump install question
Got a walbro pump and it is now offset like the stock one. I put it in there the best I could but it seems when the gas gets low, if I brake hard, it'll die or come close to dying. Just wondering if I need that yellow container thing in there or can I take it out and strap the pump to the metal? Just thinking since the pump doesn't fit in the offset hole it may only be working right when there is plenty of full in the tank. I dunno. Anyone else take out the yellow piece or does everyone here just epoxy it back on?
Re: Fuel pump install question
I purchased a Racetronix kit and epoxied the "bucket" back together (I hope that epoxy was fuel safe....I get worried whenever I think about it)..
A lot go without the bucket - but it's best to keep it. Maybe you can modify it?
Either way - sounds like you would definitely benefit from the bucket since that is what it's for - to keep a supply of fuel closer to the pump so when cornering/braking with lower amounts of fuel in the tank - chances are there is enough fuel in the bucket drawn from the actual tank to get you around the corner/braking until the fuel in the tank returns to a more even level and the bucket can draw more fuel.
+++++++++
EDIT: Nevermind I misread the post - you did use the bucket.... not sure what modifications are needed....

Re: Fuel pump install question
Fuel can only enter the pump through the strainer and the bucket is to keep the pump submerged in fuel for cooling so whether you keep the bucket or not shouldn't effect the condition you described above except for cooling the pump. I would keep the bucket, but maybe someone who didn't can give you his advice.

Re: Fuel pump install question
I didn't care what the main purpose of the bucket was, I threw it far away from me and installed my Walbro sans bucket and have had no issues once I double clamped the hose ends. Once the gas guage gets to a quarter I fill it up so maybe I would have issues if I let the tank get close to empty, but why do that?
Make sure your getting the assembly back in the tank correctly as well, you may not have it in right and its sitting too high.
