Fuel Gauge sending unit question..

I have a 2002 Firebird V6 and the fuel gauge died... I It always read completely empty or full... Im looking to replace the sending unit but the autopart stores are telling me that it is apart of the fuel pump... Is this true??? I was looking to buy a Racettronix pump for a future project... will this come with the fuel gauge sending unit?

EDIT: Crap... I did some more research into it - they are obsolete... noone sells them... is there a new sending unit or do I have to buy a new pump?

Will the racetronix pump have the sending unit?

Re: Fuel Gauge sending unit question..

I don't know about the 98-02 fuel tank, but on the 93-97 tanks, the fuel level sender is riveted to the fuel pump support, not in the fuel pump. When I needed a sender 10 years ago, the only way to get it was to buy the complete fuel pump support (not the pump) and it was over $200 back then. Since my fuel pump suport had been modified for an aftermarket fuel pump, we had to drill the rivets out of both units and swap the new sender to the old support.

By now, there should be an aftermarket replacement for the sender available.
